You Have Dents, Now What?

Few things are worse than coming out of your home in the morning only to see that your beloved vehicle has been a victim of a hail storm. Hail, unfortunately, is an act of nature that is hard to predict and, unless you have a dedicated garage for your vehicle, even harder to protect against. Here at The Hail Gurus, we understand that hail damage is annoying. As a result, we want to educate our customers as much as possible about the methods that can be used to fix hail damage on the body of their vehicles. Continue reading below to learn more.

Hail, Hail Everywhere But Not a Drop to Drink

Hail, when you get down to it, is a little bit weird. While snow is pretty easy to predict, hail can strike on a day when you would expect to only see sunshine. Because hail is so unpredictable, the average person is not that well equipped to deal with the damage that this natural phenomenon causes. Below, we have listed some of the methods used to fix hail damage.

  • Remove and Replace: Occasionally, hail damage is so severe that the only option is to remove the affected pieces of the car’s body and replace them. Components that can be easily replaced this way include hoods, fenders, and trunk lids. Each of these components can be replaced by simply undoing a few bolts and sliding a replacement piece into place. While this method of hail damage mitigation is typically reserved for cases where the hail damage can not be fixed through other means, it is still a viable option.
  • Body Filler: One of the more traditional methods of hail damage repair utilizes body filler. This process requires the repairman to grind away the repair area to the base metal of the car, feather edge the paint areas, and apply body filler along with block sand. For this method to be effective, the repairman will need to prime, block, and paint the affected area to ensure that the dents are adequately filled in. To ensure that the damage caused by the hail is properly fixed, it is pivotal that the repairman sand the body with sandpaper or another similar medium to disguise where the damage took place.
